In the last 3 minutes of the game the Finns pulled their goalie on a powerplay. Canada was swarmed in their own end but George made magic happen and earned the shutout. An empty net goal made it 4-0 for team Canada and the home crowd erupted. On the day George made 31 saves.
USA Scores Double Digits in Ottawa
The United States and Germany started the Group A action on the opening day of the WJC. The Germans put up a good scrap, at one point coming within a goal in the second when they trailed 2-3 on the powerplay. The Americans responded quickly and romped the Germans 10-4.
Czechia Beats Swiss 5-1 on Day One
Czechia held strong against team Switzerland in a commanding 5-1 victory on day one of the World Junior Championship tournament. By game end the Czechs outshot Switzerland 35 to 26 while each team ended the day with 10 penalty minutes each.
Sweden, Decisive Victory Over Slovakia
Sweden and Slovakia played the first game of the tournament with the Swedes taking a 5-2 victory. Slovakia took an early 1-0 lead into the second period but the Swedes never looked back after notching 2 goals in the period and a 3 goal third period.
2025 World Junior Championship
An introduction for what is sure to be an exciting World Junior Hockey tournament. Hosted in Ottawa, the United States is looking to defend their gold medal from last year. The US program has never won consecutive gold medals and the hosting Canadians hope to do their country proud in the capital city.
