Czechia Beats Swiss 5-1 on Day One

Day One at the World Junior Championship

Czechia held strong against team Switzerland in a commanding 5-1 victory on day one of the World Junior Championship tournament. By game end the Czechs outshot Switzerland 35 to 26 while each team ended the day with 10 penalty minutes each.

Czech goaltender Michael Hrabal had a good start to the tournament stopping 25 of 26 shots against, stopping 96 per cent of shots from the Swiss.

Goals for Czechia were well distributed with five different players lighting the lamp. Jakub Stancl and Miroslav Holinka each had a goal and an assist defenceman Tomas Galvas ended the day with 2 assists.

Swiss goalie Elijah Neuenschwander stopped 30 of the 34 shots he faced for an overall save percentage of 88 on the day. The lone goal was off the stick of right winger Leo Braillard, assisted by Endo Meier 7 minutes into the third period to steal the shutout from Hrabal.

 Switzerland hopes to get their first win of the tournament when they play 0-1 Slovakia in the first game of the day tomorrow, Friday December 27th. Czechia will get a day off before they face Kazakhstan for the first of two games to be played on Saturday December 28th.
