Onslaught – Generation Antichrist

The Bristol, England based thrash metal group Onslaught have returned with their seventh full length album, Generation Antichrist.  Onslaught’s new album will be the band’s first studio album in seven years since the release of, VI, and their first album not to feature Sy Keeler on vocals since their third album, In Search of Sanity in 1989. The album welcomes vocalist Dave Garnett to the fold, after the departure of longtime vocalist Sy Keeler stepped down from the band this past April.

Generation Antichrist relentlessly bombards you with a cluster of blistering riffs, shredding leads, but above all, fiendish vocals throughout it’s entirety. Onslaught’s fundamental extreme aggression and at times, eyebrow raising lyrics, remain a crucial part of their newest record. Onslaught wrote and recorded Generation Antichrist with Grammy Award winning producer Daniel Bergstrand at Dugout Studios in Uppsala, Sweden. Berdstrand is best known for his work with various metal bands such as Behemoth, In Flames, and Meshuggah.

The Norwich, England based thrash metal group, Shrapnel, have returned with their third full length album, Palace for the Insane. This album relentlessly bombards you with blistering riffs, shredding leads, hammering rhythms and above all, ferocious vocals throughout it’s entirety. Shrapnel’s extreme aggression, which is an absolute trademark of their sound, remains a cardinal part of their newest record. The band showcase more dynamism, versatility, and a different take on songwriting this time around on this twelve track effort. Palace for the Insane marks the first record for Shrapnel to be produced by Samuel Turbitt of Ritual Sound Studios.

Winnipeg Slayed One Last Time

Slayer with Lamb of God, Anthrax, Behemoth, and Testament

Although this show may have begun earlier than most shows tend to, the early start time didn’t prevent fans from filling the venue as the thrash metal band Testament hit the stage. Testament recently stated in an interview that this Slayer farewell tour is going to act as the band’s last run to support their 2016 released album, Brotherhood of the Snake, before starting work on their next full length album. Having a discography spanning thirty-five years, the band performed songs from throughout their catalogue including, Brotherhood of the Snake,” Practice What You Preach,” Into The Pit,” and a few more songs.

Anthrax, Killswitch Engage, & Havok

Another frosty Winnipeg night did not keep the Winnipeg Metal community at home on the evening of February 23rd to pack in the Burton Cummings Theatre to see the Metal greats Anthrax, Killswitch Engage, and Havok perform live. Anthrax and Killswitch Engage are currently on The Killthrax Tour II touring both of their 2016 released albums, “For All Kings” and “Incarnate”.
