I Love The 90’s Tour

By Samuel Stevens

The I Love The 90’s Tour returned to Winnipeg, Canada for the first time since April of 2017. The line up this time around featured Vanilla Ice, Sisqó, 2 Live Crew, and Young MC. Hip-Hop artist Coolio was originally on the line up, but was unable to make it into the country. Despite his absence, performers brought the energy to what appeared to  be a sold out audience at Bell MTS Place.

The night started immediately as the doors opened with a DJ greeting fans from the stage, spinning tracks from the 1990’s and very early 2000’s. First to the stage was Hip-Hop artist, Young MC performing a couple of songs, which included his 1989 hit single, “Bust A Move”.

After Young MC came the controversial Hip-Hip group, 2 Live Crew. Unfortunately 2 Live Crew member Fresh Kid Ice passed away last year and Brother Marquis left the group shortly after his death, leaving lone original member Mr. Mixx to perform with a DJ and another new member, Dee-Jay 360. 2 Live Crew performed many of their popular songs including, “Pop That Coochie,” “Me So Horny,” and “We Want Some Pussy.”

Once 2 Live Crew had left the stage, 90’s R&B artist, Sisqó -who was also the lead singer of Dru Hill, an R&B group from the same era- took to the stage. Sisqó performed a high tempo 25 minutes of his catalog, featuring his hit songs, “Incomplete” and “Thong Song” (as seen in the video above). Near the end of Sisqó’s set he made the announcement that his new solo album will be out very soon, giving no specific date.

Last to the stage was none other than the Hip-Hop artist, actor, and reality television personality, Vanilla Ice. Vanilla Ice surprised fans by opening his lengthy set with the Bloodhound Gang’s song, “Boom,” which he is featured on. Others he performed were, “Ninja Rap,” “Play That Funky Music,” and,  of course, “Ice Ice Baby” (as can be seen in the video below). Ice closed the set off with a multi-song dance party accompanied by fans he personally invited on stage to dance with him.
